The Veterinary Review, April 29, 2021

And another two weeks has passed. I think I will just go to a two week schedule instead of weekly. That seems to be my natural pattern anyway.

Even though it has been two weeks, things have been relatively slow on the veterinary front. We had one acupuncture visit that I can not report on because Matt took the cats in. The other acupuncture visit was canceled.

Sweet, blind Arya has been battling her circling issues. John and Julia reduced her steroids to once daily as instructed, and in a very short time the circling started up again along with vomiting. Per Dr. Heimlich, they increased the steroids back to twice a day, and started Antivert for dizziness and Cerenia for nausea. It is so important that we get this kid off steroids soon so we can spay her! Steroids hamper healing in a big way. Her story is far from over.

The biggest thing over the last two weeks has been with our precious Mystic! She finally had her bad leg amputated! Surgery went beautifully and she is up and moving around already! Pretty cool for a cat that was essentially bedridden for the previous few weeks because of her bad leg.

Mystic also has a continuous problem with her perineal area. It is oversized and always red and irritated. Her vulva is not formed correctly, for starters, and so she leaks urine. This can cause urine scalding, though we have that pretty well under control. The other problem is that she has a bacterial growth that will cover the area very quickly, almost as a scab. This is when urine scald happens. Tiana, her foster mama, is always sure to peel the growth back when she can in order to prevent scalding and to just stop the growth. She is on a long-term antibiotic regimen to see if the problem can be resolved. Her story is also far from over.
