The Veterinary Review, March 11, 2021
This week’s Veterinary Review covers a little bit of visiting and a lot of bloodwork results.
Roscoe went to the vet on Friday because we noticed he had some pretty bad irritation down on and around his private parts. Roscoe leaks stool, so I thought it may be related to that. Dr. Heimlich examined him and did a urinalysis - getting the urine by putting a needle directly into the bladder and drawing some out.
After Doc did that, Roscoe urinated on the table - not unexpected after the pressure that was put on his abdomen - and the when he was done, he leaked urine. Doc decided that the irritation was scalding from the urine. Roscoe is not cleaning it off for some reason.
We had stopped expressing Roscoe’s bladder when he started urinating on his own. We are now going back to expressing it because he is obviously not getting all of it out on his own. We are also washing his privates several times a day with just water - to keep from irritating the skin even more.
Monday was a true heartbreaker. We lost our beloved Trinket. He crossed over in loving arms with both of us right there with him.
Tuesday was acupuncture. We have stopped acupuncture on several cats who don’t seem to be getting any benefit from it, but we added Ferrell Brown. Jason was pouting and irritated because I was holding Ferrell instead of him, so he was snappy during acupuncture. Ferrell was great for the needles, but not so much for the being still. Ferrell is used to going wherever he wants to go, whenever he wants to go there. being still was exceedingly challenging for him. We got it done though.
On Friday, Doc went over most of the bloodwork results from our big 6 cats visit earlier that week.
Miss Piggy had a GI Panel done at Texas A&M - it came back normal. We are starting B-12 shots anyway just to support her GI system, and paying attention to make sure she is not being pushed off of her plate by a greedy butthead.
Bumble’s upper respiratory panel came back positive for all 3 viruses that it tests for. We have added an antiviral to his current regimen.
C3PO’s Coronavirus panel came in on Monday and he does not have an active case of FIP based on his coronavirus numbers. We are treating his growing white cell count with two additional antibiotics.
Grady’s bloodwork was clean. his coronavirus titers did not lead Doc to believe he had an active FIP virus either. His upper respiratory, lung, and skin issues are as bad as they are likely due to being FIV+.
That covers the Veterinary Review for this week! See you next week!
